RTS “Infrarouge”: Divorce: Fathers’ rights flouted?

In Switzerland, 4 out of 10 marriages end in a funeral… of the marriage. In the cities, even 5 out of 10 contracts end in front of the judge. In contrast to happy unions, the divorce rate is the only one to rise… and the law often struggles to keep up. Today, more and more men are standing up to defend the rights they say are violated during a separation. In Bern, a postulate has been tabled in parliament that parental authority should henceforth be exercised jointly by the father and mother, as is the case in Germany and France. In Switzerland, the judge almost always grants parental authority to the mother. Feminists and the left in general believe that the current situation should not be changed: in the case of a conflictual divorce, neither shared custody nor joint parental authority is in the interests of the child. This would only serve to multiply the quarrels that are precisely at the root of the separation, these circles say. The “flouted fathers” feel that they are victims of the perverse effects of the feminist revolution of the 1970s. “We’re not just alimony payers,” they say. “It’s time to restore our rights.” Anne Reiser is one of the guests on the program.
